A complete run of the noted Czech periodical on modern visual arts, performing arts, film, architecture and urban planning, edited by Frantisek Kalab, including contributions by Sychra, Teige, Bill, Jorn and Ehrenburg, profusely illustrated throughout. 4to. Year I bound in cloth, orig. wrpps. bound at end; Years II-III in individual issues, as published. Brno 1946-1949.

An important post-World War II art journal featuring contributions by many of the most important Czech cultural figures of the time. Covering developments in both Western and Eastern Europe in the immediate aftermath of the War, it was broad-minded and inclusive, with material on children's art, domestic decorative arts, urbanism, film, photography, etc. Particularly notable was the survey of emerging postwar photography, which would remain the freest form of expression in the ensuing decades. While the first two years are modernist in aesthetic style, the final issues show some influence of Soviet Socialist Realism. Book ID: 40244
