Altogether 8 volumes, including 2 vols. of text, 2 vols. of printed plates, and 4 vols. of mounted photographs; I,II: 532, 425 pp. detailed text by the building's architect on the artistic sources, theory behind the structure, and the design, construction and decoration of Le Théatre de l'Opera in Paris, which was completed in 1874 and stands as one of the great architectural achievements of the second half of the 19th century; III, IV: Two volumes with 76 discreet plates numbered 1-100 consecutively (including many double plates), 20 of which are superb chromolithographs, showing exquisitely detailed and beautifully rendered plans, cross sections, elevations, and exterior and interior details of the grand building including paintings, mosaics, metalwork, stage mechanics, reception rooms, etc.; V, VI, VII, VIII: Four volumes, each with separate title and list of plates, containing altogether 115 mounted original photographic prints ranging in size from 5" x 14" to 11" x 15" (mostly larger), created by Edouard Durandelle expressly for this publication, most of the photographs in an excellent state of preservation with highly contrasting blacks and whites and little fading. Some mild to moderate foxing on individual plates. Vols. I and II, 4to., orig. leather-backed boards, spines rubbed and chipped; Vols. The exceedingly rare complete set of the monumental work, including the four portfolios with all 115 original photographic prints, missing in most sets.

Although there are some minor flaws including some foxing here and there and some slight fraying to the extremities of some plates, altogether a fine copy of a work that seldom comes to market complete.
