A complete run in three issues (62, 96, 96 pp.) of the French literary review put out by the group of the same name, comprised of writers and artists including René Dumaul, Roger Gilbert-Lecomte, Joseph Sima, Roger Vailland, Robert Meyrat, Pierre Minet, Leon Pierre-Quint, and André Rolland de Renéville, containing surrealist-inspired essays, poetry, and reviews and criticism, topics include the necessity of revolution and the world of myth, with additional contributions from Maurice Henry, Jaroslav Seifert, Mayo, Arp, and others. Scattered illustrations from drawings and photographs. Some scattered toning. 8vo. Orig. printed wrpps., some soiling and minor spotting to covers, some creasing, edge and spine wear. Paris 1928-1930.

In 1922 Dumaul, Lecomte, Vailland, Meyrat, all friends from school, formed a group called "Phrères Simplistes", with the goal of rediscovering the simplicity of childhood and spontaneous knowledge through extrasensory research, pataphysics, mystical texts, and drug experimentation. In 1925 they discovered surrealism and adapted some of its precepts. Later disagreements between members over the tenets of the group and the devotion to surrealism led some members to break off and the group to dissolve in 1932. There were only three issues of this journal published originally. A 1977 reprint includes the contents of a fourth issue planned for Autumn 1932, which was never printed at the time. Book ID: 48748
