The "Movement of 1977" was a spontaneous political movement that happened across Italy in 1977, mostly originating from far-left groups. 1977 was a critical year in the Autonomist and labor movements. As opposed to the student movements of the late 1960's, this uprising was characterized more by an objection to the party system, to unions, and even to political parties themselves. Autonomists clashed with the police and with members of the Communist Party, leading to violent riots in Bologna and Turin over the course of the year with numerous casualties.
