A complete run in 7 issues, 20-28 pp. each, of the darkly humorous "gray literature" journal, edited by a large team including Joachim Baumhauer, Clas Broder Hansen, Dorothee Hinkes, Gerd Luck, Wolfgang Müthling, Anke Rehr, Sebastian Burckhardt, Andreas Bross, Cord-Georg Hasselmann, Martin Knipping, Christian Rietz, Ursula Scharna, and Oliver Stephan, the publication fueled by a fascination with death and morbidity, taking the form of a type of serialized artist's journal, containing poetry, prose, photography, and photo-montages. Profusely illustrated. 4to. Original stapled photo-illustrated wrpps. Fine condition. Berlin/Hamburg/München (Deutsche Hochschule für Seriositätswissenschaften/Tod-und-Teufel-Verlagsgesellschaft) 1978-1980.
The official publisher of Der Tod was the "German Academy for the Sciences of Seriousness", a "serious organization which is engaged in serious public performances and publications," according to a post by Broder Hansen. A very unusual and somewhat surreal example of independent publishing in West Germany. Very scarce; as of February 2019, WorldCat shows only a single holding of an individual issue in a North American library. Book ID: 49031
